The Legend called Benaras..

I never doubted myself that I will not like this city. It is one of those places which one will like undoubtedly even without ever visiting the place. I love the music, culture, food, narrow streets and almost everything that Benaras referred as. When one arrives here, a spiritual energy is felt all around. A sense of belonging is there even for a first time visitor like me.
The Cycle rickshaw ride in the evening across the city gave me a glimpse of the city, contracted lanes, crowd, foreigners and even saints. Everything was just increasing my excitement. I was amazed to see web of lanes as I passed through, some hardly wide enough for a scooter to pass one at a time. The mixed aroma of milk preparations and chats aroused my urge to have street side food.

Story of Famous Ghats & Temples

The streets become crowded as soon as the sun rises, with worshippers, monks, pilgrims, localities and tourists like me. You will see pilgrims performing ritual ablutions on the ghats of Varanasi. This city has many ghats which were built during the time of Marathas. Each ghat has its own significance and they have mesmerising view. All ghats are east facing and sun kissed in the morning.

One of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world and the oldest in India with continuous history dating back 3,000 to 5,000 years. It is a place where people come to wash away their lifetime of sins by taking a dip in the river Ganges

The Dashashwamedh Ghat is probably one of the oldest and Main Ghats in the city and close to Kashi Vishwanath Temple. It is believed that Lord Brahma sacrificed ten horses in order to welcome Lord Shiva on earth.
Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat
Evening Ganga aarti happens around 6:30-7:00 P.M regularly at Dashashwamedh Ghat which is also called “Agni Pooja” (Worship to Fire) dedicated to Lord Shiva, River Ganga, Surya (sun) and Agni (Fire) is being performed. It is well choreographed and rehearsed form of Aarti which over the years is attracting millions of tourists from all over the world. Cymbals, bells, drums, lights, conches, smokes of joss sticks and every thing else creates a festive atmosphere. It is definitely a treat to the eye.

One of the famous ghats here is Assi Ghat where two small rivers meet, Asi and Varuna. Tourists often visit this place for recreation because the ambiance of the place is so nice and comforting; one would want to just sit there endlessly. Rituals taking place, people relaxing on the steps of the ghat, tourists sitting in a cafe sipping coffee, is a common sight there. History tells that in Assi Ghat only the famous poet saint, Tulsi Das had written Ramcharitmanas.

What surprising in Banaras is that, every ghat has a personal character. Some are colourful, some have silk factories which are there from ages and some of them are used to perform the last rituals and some are just there looking mottled and aged.

Apart cheerful, energetic and active ghats of Benaras there is Manikarnika Ghat (known as Burning Ghat) which is situated at the middle of city where majority of cremation takes place. According to Hindu Mythology if a person is cremated at Manikarnika ghat then that person will receive “Moksha” (liberation from rebirth). This Ghat is always at work; around 200 people are cremated here each day.

Way to Kashi Vishwanath Temple
I got off from rickshaw and walk towards the road which gets into the serpentine gullies to reach Kashi Vishwanath temple which is located at Dashashwamedh Ghat. No cameras were allowed there, full of armed guards and NSG commandos intrude over every morsel of a thing entering the temple. There's a queue for the darshan. Sometimes, the queue is so long that it extends into the gullies outside the temple.  Nearby are the temples of Annapoorani and Vishalakshi.
Kashi Vishwanath temple is the most famous temple of Lord Shiva. It is being said that if you will visit this temple and take a dip in River Ganga once then the person will lead to the path of “Moksha”.

“If you find peace while chanting “Om Namah Shivay”, if  peace is all you searching for, if interesting stories attracts you, if you love to meet new people from around the world, if you travel just for good food, if you love culture and care about your heritage, if spirituality is all you need. Then Benaras is the place you must visit, it welcomes all with a open heart”.

As Mark Twain said “Benaras is Older than history, older than tradition, older even than legend, and looks twice as old as all of them put together”.

It is true that Benaras have much more importance in each of our lives, Benaras speaks about our pasts, it has alluring present and it’s Benaras where we can secure our future. Benaras has rare sense of spirituality & religiousness. If you are in Benaras you will get a feeling that you already in some kind of temple, you will not at all feel that you are not in temple. Even when I was sitting at the ghat or even sipping tea at some stall I felt the same calmness and ease as one finds inside the temple.

Where to stay

Tourist visiting Varanasi from outside India will not like the small, crowded roads of Varanasi. The narrow streets of Varanasi are a part of different world altogether. Shops selling small figurines of deities, restaurants with finger licking food, palm readers, children playing, monks walking around and much more.

When one visits this city, they can catch a ride to their hotel/accommodation using an automatic rickshaw or a manual rickshaw. Visitors like to stay near the river and be a part of the crowd, and hence they stay in the Guest houses/hotels situated along the ghats. Staying on the ghats is a very good experience.

What to eat

Honestly I am a big Foodie! And can never stay far away from food and being in Benaras and not trying delicious street food would be a little stupid & once I started I did not stop. Benaras is known for its Kachouri’s and Jalebi for breakfast, Milk preparations, Kulhad Chaai, Lassi, Thandai’s and Chat as an evening meal. Last but not the least Benaras is also known for its famous Benarasi Pan which one should definitely try after food.

Where to Eat

Kaashi Chat Bhandar:  At the famous Gadowliya chowk lies the “Kaashi Chat Bhandar” offering various mouth-watering chats like aloo bhalla, palak patta ki chat (Spinach leaves chat), Tamaatar ki chaat (Tomatoes chat), Gol-gappa/Paani puri, ad even kulfi. Kaashi Chat Bhandar serves the most genuine flavors and one can’t resist eating one plate. Atleast I won’t!

Blue Lassi: It is one of the famous Lassi shop of Benaras. You visit some places and you know this is the place where search ends. Whatever I heard about this place is right. The environment is so calm and relaxing after walking through the narrow streets of Benaras. One can sit there and quench the thirst by the famous fruit lassi and of course the plain lassi which will leave you drooling over them for months

Videshi Food
Benaras is an amalgamation of two cultures modern and traditional. I liked the fact that the city is neatly divided into a modern and old part and same goes with its food. Even being one of the oldest & traditional city Benaras allows you if you to eat Italian, Lebanese or American and that too authentic.

“Pizzeria Vatika”: An open air restaurant at Assi Ghat serves exquisite 100% Italian Pizza.
Pizzeria Vatika

“Bread of Life”:  Located at sigra this restaurant is running from 1990’s and offers baked goods. For Breakfast they offer omelette's,skillets,French toast, pancakes and fruit plates. Lunch has a vast variety including soups, salads,Portuguese warm salads and basically every American dish you can ever imagine. Espresso, tea, Japanese green tea, fresh juices are add-on's to the menu.

“Haifa Cafe”: Another restaurant located at Assi Ghat serving Middle-eastern cuisine but also have wide variety of Continental and Indian food.
Ganges flowing calming, little Dia’s floating like a tiny beads of lights and unlimited sky around you is a perfect setting to let go of the creative block, so I took out the camera and clicked some pictures for my memories. You can totally get lost in Banaras, gulping a glass of lassi and talking to some strange person.
Some return with enduring memories, some with mystical revelation, others with sanctification and many of them never return completely .Many foreigner come to India to visit Banaras but never return back just because it is a magical place which will never let you go. You will hate it for once because of the city is not very clean as one might expect it being one of the holiest and sacred cities in India, narrow roads and bad traffic but you will fall in love again and again because of its purity and the experience you had. Banaras is much beyond everything we feel it is.

Tip: One of the most important that a visitor should know that, they should bargain for the price with either a cabby or a shopkeeper, because the price given to the tourist is generally three times the norms.

REAL Not ARTIFICIAL...

Now a days we dont click pictures for memories...
We click them for Facebook....

We dont put status "What's in our mind"
But we put status to let the other "Person" know what we feel for them (Jealousy/Hatred/Love= Whatever...)

We dont remember birthdays...
We switch on the computer Log in to Facebook and Whoa' HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR ENJOY TAKE CARE....

We dont cover ourselves in pictures...
But we all have Cover pictures...

We dont have time to meet people in person..
But have time to "Poke" them...

We all living in a Virtual world...Having artificial emotions...
There are more things than Facebook....

#Go out#
#Meet People#
#Share love#
If you angry say it on face not on status...
May be things get sorted out...
If you are happy Celebrate it with people...
Not with few virtual friends who forget the very next day that why were you happy yesterday....

Enjoy your life in R E A L..
Not  A R T I F I C I A L....

Interview with pallavi

"Look for something, find something else, and realise that what you've found is more suited to your needs than what you thought you were looking for..."

Among her three sisters and a younger brother she is the most lovable child of the Maurya family.
Living in nuclear family she never really lost the track of dis-respecting her values, morals and traditions.
She is cooperative,
She is candied,
She is charming,
She is silent,
She is simple,
And she is totally non-social girl of Lucknow University Journalism department which doesn’t quite fit the popular perception of being a Media person as people think if you are studying media you should be out-going and a social person. But 20 years old Pallavi have different thought on it...

Let's see what her take on this...

Q. How will you define yourself and what is your family background?

A. - “Well my friends call me “pallu” and I am an easy going girl. I am born and brought up in Lucknow. Apart from me I have three elder sisters and one younger brother.
My father is in RTO office and my mother is home maker. I have done my schooling from City Montessori School chowk branch and then I have done my Bachelors in journalism from University of Lucknow. I am not very much social. And I live in nuclear family from past six years.”

Q.- What are your hobbies? What you like to do in your free time?

A. – “I like to read romantic novels, dancing and swimming”

Q. – As you said you like to read? Who are your favourite authors?

A. - “Yes. I like to read Cheatan bhagat and Animesh sharma.”

Q.-What according to you, you are and why?
A) Player
B) Observer
C) Follower or
D) Leader

A. - "I am an Observer. Because you need to observe people so that you can act accordingly towards to them”

Q.-Don’t you think being a leader is more important then being an Observer?

A. - "In my opinion I think first you need to be an observer rather than a leader because if you haven’t observed them you will only give your point of view and will neglect them. The people who are following may be they are just following us for the sake of following, because from there point of view leader is meant to be followed. But if you observe people you will get to know what people think about you, what is there nature and accordingly you can react towards them”.

Q.-What accomplishment are you most proud off and why?

A.-"At school time I had never imagined that I will opt for swimming as I had aqua phobia since I was a child. But then I saw my sister as she was a swimmer. Than I gathered the courage and killed that fear by joining classes in my school and I came out as a winner. I won Inter branch swimming competition. That is one kind of an accomplishment for me”.

Q.-In every walk of life one needs the right guidance and training. Do you have a mentor?

A. – “Yes. In every phase of life we get a mentor, at home our mother and father, in school teachers and of course our best buddies. I have many many teachers in my life.

Q. - Time of your life which you cherish the most?

A. - “I cherish my school days a most. Because of my friends and teachers who were there. I enjoyed a lot”.

Q. - When it’s strike in your mind that you want to go for journalism?

A. - “Later years we don’t use to have cable channels we watch doordarshan. In that there is this news reader comes Nirmala kumari ji.I was so influenced by her. Then I decided to go into news reading. Nirmala ji was my inspiration. But I had no idea what mass communication is and how to go about it. Then there is this neighbour of mine, she helped me a lot. She guided me through out”.

“Dreams won't come looking for you. That's why you have to chase them. Pursue them until they become reality, then hold on tightly”

Q. - Who is your Favourite News readers/Anchors?

A. - “Yes, I have done anchoring in ETV uttar pradesh in January 2011”

Q. How was the experience?

Q.  You are Doing Journalism, Your father wants you to go in civil services and side by side you are doing Bank coaching classes.Don't you think these all are different genres?

A. - “Yes I agree these all are different. But what I want to be is anchor or News Reader to be precise”

Q.  Why you doing bank coaching if you want to go for news reading?

A. – “For going in the field of journalism you need a link and till now I have no link for this field. So right now I am working on my backup plan. I chose banking because I want a secure job. In mass communication there is no guarantee of job. If you get job even then also it’s not mandatory that at any point of time they will not fire you”.

A. - “Don’t want to answer. Next question please!”

Q.  Confessions, if any?

A. - “There is nothing I need to confess about”

Q. What are you biggest fears?

A. - “Well as I stated before, I had only one that is water phobia. But now I overcame with it”.

"You block your dream when you allow your fear to grow bigger than your faith"

Q. Which is your favourite cuisine?

A. - “I love to have Idli sambhar. South Indian is my favourite cuisine”.

Q. Do you trust people easily? Do you remember any one incident when somebody cheated you or broken your trust?

A. - “Yes I do trust people easily and you can say that is my weakness. Well yeah once I told all of my secrets to one of my friend and she made them public”

"Explain you anger, don't express it, and you will immediately open the door to solutions and understanding."
Q. - Haven’t you done anything to take revenge from your friend who busted out your secrets in public?

A. - “Well Silence speaks louder than actions. I just stopped talking to her”.

Q. How you deal with your problems in life?

A. - “Problem! I rather call them Challenge... Life is a challenge. My problems in life are not different from any other. In fact they are same for everyone but I think the challenges are different. Challenges are like stepping stones. Either you make them as a step to climb up or you make them as a blockage. So I share everything with my sister and take out the solution of them”.

“There are no big problems; there are just a lot of little problems”

Q. - How do you De-stress yourself?

A. – “A good sound sleep help me to De-stress my self. And apart from that whenever I fell stressed out Music is my Drug”.

Q. Which is your favourite all time movie. What you absorbed or learnt from that movie?

A. - “Kabhi khushi kabhi gham and Hum aapke hain kaun. I love these movies because they teach us how to live happily in a family”

Q. - Do you ever miss being in a joint family? Or ever wished to be in joint family? Or you think being in nuclear family is best?

A. - “We use to live in a joint family, but after my grandparents death we live as a nuclear family. Yes I miss my grandfather and his stories which he use to tell us”.

Q. - Don’t you think you should be regular to college if you want to be a successful media person? As I have seen you only twice and thrice in the campus?

A. – “I don’t think for being in media coming to college is necessary”.

Q. - But don’t you think there are thousand of things which you will learn only when you have theoretical knowledge and for that you have to take classes?

A. - “Knowledge can be embedded from books also and at home also one can read books and gain knowledge”

Q. If you can change anything in world or people around you and in yourself what will you like to change?

A. - “I want to end corruption from everywhere if you talk about the world or people around me. And in me I wish I can adjust with people quickly as I take time to open up with people”.

“Be sure what you want and be sure about yourself. Fashion is not just beauty, it's about good attitude. You have to believe in yourself and be strong”

Q. - Is fashion important to you what does this means to you?

A. - “Fashion as a personality is important. We should be up-to dated with fashion trends”

Q. What is your fashion statement?

A. - “Whatever I like to wear is fashion for me. Basically something in which I feel comfortable”.

"The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively."

Trend is changing and so is today’s youth. They don’t want to attend lectures and want to have fun. For them its fun, but later on they realise that its their few of the biggest mistakes that they have committed. But people like Pallavi, have set the benchmark for all those students who miss there classes and try and study at home as she feels that coming to college and not attending classes due to peer pressure is more than a bad thing rather than not coming to college and study at home. Now a days students don't want to attend their colleges and they just want to chill out with their friends. Many do this in the pressure of other friends and many just because they want to run away from studies. Now its time to wake up, Its an alarming situation... So now I urge all of you to take a pledge that we, the greatest creation of the Almighty, will not demean the precious gift given to us by God, the gift of life and the gift of teaching others what's right and what's not. We will fight against the most difficult times that come across us with full spirits and will rise up every time we fall. We will never, never give up. As Japanese proverb says, "Fall seven times, stand up eight" - and this eighth may be lucky chance which will bring you to your happiness.

"Running away from any problem only increases the distance from the solution.the easiest way to escape from the problem is to solve it in a day when u don't come across any problem you can be sure that u r travelling on a wrong path"

"If you want to stand out, don't be different, be OUTSTANDING"
